Voice of Grace

Holleta City Hall: for the second time GEOM and churches in Holleta joined together for three days revival meeting and one leadership training. As usual the Lord of the Harvest was there to touch the hearts of people, and by the power of the Holy Spirit many have been able to decided to come to Christ and renew their fellowship with the body of Christ. We had friends with us from USA to participate in preaching and praying for sick people. For them it is unusual experience or it is their first time seeing demons crying and leave out of peoples life. In all our crusades there were the manifestations of the power of the Holy Spirit. As it was in Jesus time and according to His command my preaching was confirmed by sign and wonders. Here is a picture of  a young man who the first time walk in 12 years.

Sara Oesh a daughter of Dr. Norb has involved in Children ministry as we were doing preaching business.

Guder Stadium – A three days revival was held at Guder Stadium, this meeting was organized by Ethiopian Evangelical Church association of Guder city. There was an about ten thousand person who attended the conference and the outcome of this three days meeting was uplifting. Hundreds of people came to faith and many of them were delivered from evil spirit by the power of the Name of Jesus. Those people who have been away from church fellowship renew their covenant to be active in the Church.

More than 300 choir members from different churches, have organized to sing for this event. The songs were in Oromo language and the worship was live. It is very different from American Churches worship, it seems emotional but it sincere from the heart. And as it was in old days, when the people in the stadium and the Choir start to glorifying Jesus together, we feel and see his glory moving in the stadium.

Kolfee Mekan Yesus Church has organized a week long revival meeting. The meeting started on Wednesday evening and ends after a week on Wednesday evening. Since the church can not hold that many people at one time there were TV screens in other rooms and for those people who are outside of the building.

It is a record breaking to the church having these many new people joined their churches. Miracles, deliverance and live worship were day to day activities of  our Lord Jesus Christ who reigns for ever and ever.  A woman came to the pulpit with her blood got an instant healing in front of the congregation. On the third day she came with her doctor proof that miracles happened. An elder of that same church have been paralyzed for the past four years and God has healed at the end of the program. He walked to the pulpit for the first time in four years.

81 students have graduated from GETC and eight of them were on degree, the rest are in diploma, and certificate graduates. Most of the certificate students have studied under Evangelist Hussien Mohammed who himself was a graduate of Grace College.

The second Graduate School in Ethiopia (Grace Graduate School) has been started on March 31st. Rev. Alemu Shetta who opened the opening ceremony in prayer has congradulate Rev. Dereje and the board for bringing this vision to Ethiopia and the board for their work to bring this vision to reality. Rev. Dr. Shiferaw Sedi, Rev. Dr. Seleshi Kebede, Ato Tena Kebede and Ato Asfawe Kebede and 20 newly registered students have joined this event. Ato Abebe Gemechu who is the first advance English instructor in this program, has been a blessing to GEOM since we began our work in 1993.

Seminar in Dilla, the two days seminar for the newly established synod in the south has been given by Rev Dereje morethan 34 representative have attended this training. Rev. Ayalew the youngest synod president in Mekane Yesus Church have organized this seminar. Theere are more170,000 church members in synod but having less than 50 trained leaders. At the conclusion of the seminar; the synod decided to adopt GEOM to be their partner in leadership training and prepare the next generation to face this huge number of people who came to Church and protect the church from false teachings.

The number of students in the Southren Synods is growing. There are 1000 students only in the South Central Synod under Rev. Hailu. The newly elected president is working very hard to make his Synod self supporting in every area. more and more Synod presidents have joined to get their theological studies from GTC. Students from the seminary are taking Grace diploma courses on top their classes in their seminaries. Those people who approaches us told us “ they like our courses because it is Amharic and easy to understand”

The partnership between Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus and Grace Ethiopian Outreach Ministry has continued and it needs more work on guidelines. The recent meetings with Rev. Dr Wak Seioum and Rev. Yonas, has indicated that, since the agreement is continuing, the guide line is a must.

GEOM president Rev. Dereje got a chance to talk with eecmy seminary; New Testament professor Bruke and TEE head Ato Teferi on April 3, 2009 with recommendation of Rev. Yonas. The discussion has pondered on how to build relationships and exchange information and experience between these two Lutheran instructions in Ethiopia. The two parties agreed that there is a need for more  Christian institutions, willing to train leaders.  The present pastors who especially in the remote areas will not be able to lead the congeregation where as very active and educated. In the prsent situation many universitiy graduates are going to these churches in some areas didn’t get any proper education. The challange is not for Lutheran Church only but for other evangelical churches too.
